We built Matters Graph for a specific client: Principal Investors and the lenders who finance acquisitions.
As corporate strategists and analysts, we chose this path in 2017 because we fell in love with the principal owner mindset and its active value generation exercise, and we had a differentiated capability to help.
We love the Principal Investors' remit to build something greater than what exists today – and their hyper-competitive forum, in which they compete, and the difficult and entrusted task of outperforming and generating greater returns.
We believe in the importance and potential of Diligence, and we stick to our knitting – providing commercial Diligence for both organic and inorganic investments.
We love that these investors can see potential.
We admire the hard-fought hunts to find something attractive.
We love their ideas, the formative exercise of the investment thesis, and the opportunity that Matters Graph has to help inform, iterate, and pressure-test a thesis, enabling investors to enjoy greater returns.
We honor the responsibility associated with our role in not only making principals more effective owners but also helping our clients avoid mistakes and mitigate risks. The holding period can proceed smoothly or prove painful, constraining careers and hurting fund returns.
When our clients come to us with their opportunity and the associated ideas, we take seriously the intrigue, potential rewards, uncertainty, and risks. These are profound moments, and call for a more effective toolset, and more attention and care.
Finding something undervalued is rare and most often elusive. But what is not elusive, and what is compelling, is the opportunity to change reality and to create value. Discovering the insights, discerning what is essential, being open to deliberation, and properly diligencing is our exciting assignment, and we take enormous pride in doing it the way it deserves to be.
Being a principal investor and being a lender takes guts, and we deeply admire the professionals who do it. Serving the field, and taking our responsibility to be rigorous, to aim for the truth, and to represent what we learned earnestly and soberly is what is warranted when investing other people's money - and to generate a return to provide security and an enhanced future.
[This is] where we plug in: supporting logical ideas, instinct, and base conviction with truth where we can find it (and being honest when we cannot). We commit to never replacing Diligence with conjecture disguised as experience or wisdom.
Go the extra mile—and recognize that good enough is never sufficient. Remain focused on the capabilities we develop—and make everything we do world-class. If a project falls outside our sweet spot, we will not waste our clients' time and money by taking it on.
We have a job, and we have a promise. And we love it: Making Diligence Matter.
